Referrals
We work by referral only.
Joshiz does not accept inbound proposals. There is no application, no submission form, and no process to enter.
Why we work this way.
Every entity in the group arrived through someone we already work with. That is not a policy we adopted; it is a description of what has actually happened across twenty-eight entities.
An open funnel would fill with proposals we are not equipped to judge and would displace the diligence we owe the entities we already hold. A referral carries something an application cannot: someone with a reputation is willing to spend it on you.
If you have a referral, the person who made it already knows how to reach us.
Three steps from introduction.
What happens
- 01
Introduction
An associate, or someone already working with the group, makes the introduction and says why. Nothing reaches the partners cold.
- 02
Conversation
One conversation with the partner closest to the relevant division. Where capital is involved, the Managing Partner joins it.
- 03
Decision
No investment committee and no board process. You get an answer either way, usually within days of the conversation.
Four things we test for.
What we look for
- 01
Engineering leadership
Someone in charge who can read the drawings. We have never made an exception to this and do not intend to.
- 02
A path to owned production
Either you make the thing, or there is a credible route to making it. We are not useful to businesses that will always outsource.
- 03
A decade-long problem
If the opportunity closes in three years, we are the wrong holder. Permanent capital only earns its keep against long problems.
- 04
Comfort with discretion
Much of the group’s work is unpublicised. Founders who need the announcement more than the outcome tend not to fit.
One exception.
Press enquiries do not require a referral and are handled by the group directly.
